Man Shot in Chatham Neighborhood; Shooter May Be Local Property Owner

A 47-year-old man was shot in Chicago’s south side Chatham neighborhood.

Around 4:36 a.m., a citizen reported gunshots and a man screaming, “Help! I’ve been shot!” The 911 caller said the gunfire appeared to be coming from the intersection of East 80th Street and South Ingleside Avenue.

When Chicago police officers arrived on the scene, they found the injured man in a hallway at 940 East 80th Street. The man had been shot in the stomach with a small caliber handgun, possibly a .22, said one officer.

The shooter was described as an African-American man in his forties with a dark complexion and a stocky build. He is approximately 6-feet-tall and 190 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black puffy coat and light-colored blue jeans.

Authorities received information indicating the gunman owns property on the 8000 block of South Ellis and drives a black utility pick-up truck.

The shooting victim was taken to Christ Hospital in reportedly stable condition.

  1. Another weird story. Maybe the "landlord" caught the guy robbing? Maybe the landlord deals drugs as well and this went bad and that's why he ran? Does anyone ever sleep anymore? Sheesh, lot of crime going on in the wee hours of the morning before the working stiffs get up to go to work and earn an HONEST buck!

  2. The police have the suspect's name. I didn't print it because at the time of my report, the suspect had not been formally charged.

The victim knows who shot him and I suspect he also knows why!
