The fact that several Chicago police officers have been killed in the line of duty, didn't deter thousand of applicants from applying for a spot on Chicago's police force.
There are an estimated 1,100 positions available.
Chicago Police Superintendent, Jody Weis, told CBS 2’s Pamela Jones, "I don’t want people to think that police are being targeted. They are not. But we’ve had more than our share of tragedies this year. And we can only hope and pray that 2011 will be much safer year. And having enough officers on board is a very important aspect of that."
