Cops Ask for Help in North Side Store Robberies
Days after I printed an article questioning the media's lack of attention to a string of armed robberies at north side, Chicago eateries; mainstream media stepped up of their game... a little.
CBS Chicago and Chicago Breaking News have printed stories asking for the public's assistance in catching two men wanted in a rash of stick-ups in the Near North, Belmont, and Town Hall districts. Both websites are offering similar descriptions of the offenders.
CBS Chicago: "The two are described as black males, each with brown eyes and short black hair, the alert said. One is between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-1 weighing between 185 and 220 pounds, and the other is between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, and between 140 and 160 pounds."
Chicago Breaking News: "The first suspected robber, who is wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and a white t-shirt in the photo, is described as a black man, between 5 foot 10 and 6 foot 1 in height, weighing between 185 and 220 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a medium complexion.
The second suspected robber, who is wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with a design on the chest in the photo, is described as a black man standing between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, weighing between 140 and 160 pounds, with brown eyes, short black hair and a light complexion."
Although these descriptions are helpful, and I'm sure the businesses struck by these criminals appreciate at least half of their stories being told, there is so much information missing from these articles, the void could double as an alternate universe.
Allow me to utilize my amazing cut and paste skills to fill in the media gaps.
Around 1:21 a.m., a Chicago, Lincoln Park restaurant was robbed at gunpoint.
The Subway sandwich shop at 2421 N. Clark Street was held up for the second time, said police. Gunmen took an unspecified amount of cash from the register.
The offenders were described as two African-American men, both approximately 28-years-old.
One suspect was wearing a brown or orange hoodie and the second man was wearing a black hoodie. Both men were wearing jeans.
A witness said the thieves fled the scene on foot, southbound on Clark Street.
Police were also trying to determine if the bandits were involved in a robbery on the 1500 block of West Fullerton, earlier this morning.
Police say a pair of bandits are having a jolly-good-time robbing Subway sandwich shops on Chicago’s north side. But if you rely on mainstream media to keep you informed, you would never hear about these strong arm robberies.
Some time around 11 p.m., 2 men waltzed in the Subway sandwich shop at 2008 N. Halsted Street, pulled a gun, and took off with $600.00.
The thieves were described as two, short, African-American men in their twenties. Witnesses say the men fled the scene in a sliver Mazda.
According to police, the same men robbed a Subway sandwich shop at 2421 N. Clark Street, on October 22, 2010.
