35 years ago today, 11 people were killed and an estimated 180 people were injured during one of CTA's most deadliest accidents.
On February 4, 1977, at the height of rush hour, two elevated trains collided at Wabash Avenue and Lake Street, causing four cars to derail and slam to the ground.
One report indicated motorman Stephan A. Martin, who was driving a Lake-Dan Ryan train, caused the collision when he rear-ended a Ravenswood train that was waiting to approach a nearby station.
Prior to the crash, Martin reportedly used marijuana and he also had a questionable safety record.

ReplyDeleteO.K., bring race into this. So what "color" was the one that ran the train off it's tracks and onto the ground most recently on a curve (Green Line, I believe)? There are reports and complaints stating that driver was always going way too fast. I've seen maybe 1 or 2 non-black CTA train operators during my Chicago stint. Bets are that driver was black (with 7" fingernails, a crooked wig and enough lip gloss to ease them over a trailer hitch to suck the chrome off of it - ever see that one? She dunz lubs herself, always has her head out the window). They consider themselves "professionals".

Never thought I'd get caught up in this mess of stupidity and liberalism (aka get blown in the alley and nobody could possibly care) but here I am.
ReplyDeleteThe terra cotta lovers should move to Detroit city proper. They'd LOVE the history, craftsmanship and pewabic pottery there but would be put in their place within 2 hours for being so foolish (and would be running for cover back to Uptown or Edgewater - not Lakeview).
