VIDEO: California cop punches 'mentally ill' woman in the face

Bellflower, California - A male L.A. County sheriff's deputy is being accused of using excessive force after he was caught on tape punching an allegedly mentally handicapped woman in the jaw.

The male officer, along with a female officer, tried to eject the passenger, whom they called by name, from a Metro bus in Bellflower, California, Monday evening.

When the reportedly mentally challenged woman put up a struggled and began to use foul language, the male officer struck the woman in the face.

Jermaine Green, a recent war veteran, recorded the incident with his cell phone.

Green said the officer who hit the woman tried to intimidate him into handing over his cell phone, but Green refused.

According to NBCLA, a spokesperson for the sheriff's department said the department had no comment and refused to even look at the video.

  1. The police don't have to wait for you to swing on them. She closed distance with the officer and was not following verbal direction. We had an officer killed here in chicago on a bus in 2010 by a "mentally challenged woman" who disarmed the officer and killed him with his own gun. Bottom line follow the officers orders and fight your case in court.

  2. On WSHH I read she was on the bus with a stroller full of pillows...

  4. Mike Payne: How will you handle issues with the mentally ill on your proposed Gray Line? Bored people everywhere need to know!

  5. Why are these mental cases always riding the bus? Where the hell are they going?

  6. Just remember PO Richard Francis was murdered about two years ago by a 300 lb female mental. I have no problem with his actions.

  7. I won't be "handling", or "in control" of passengers on the Gray Line - any more than CTA is "handling" problems on ANY of the other 'L' lines.

I am creating the Gray Line to create JOBS - I obviously cannot be on each and every train,
nor would I have any way of controlling any riders if I was.

  8. If you notice at the end of the video she says "I didn't do nothing wrong," like nothing happened. Either she has a jaw made of concrete, or that officer swings like a girl.

  9. The CTA is just crawling with drunks, stinky homeless types, weirdos, mental cases not taking their meds and other head cases. They should use cattle prods on them to drive them out and away from the regular people. Where are they all going anyway?

  10. All she ever had to was cooperate, mentally ill or not. The police were obviously there because she was a threat to others and the police officer had to force some type of compliance. Violence is the only thing some people respond to.

  11. THAT was an absolute delight to watch!!! Why is it so hard not to mess with the cops?

  12. That "mentally ill" term is being thrown around a bit too much just like "homeless". Some of these people are no more crazy than you or I. If they can charge at you diagonally from across the street (like the one in fancy Andersonville last night), they have full responsibility and capacity to know what they intend to do. I told myself if he was still there when I exited that store and came within 36" of me.......I'd be the next headline on CNR.

I will defend myself from these wack jobs even if it means death until I get out of this hellhole of a "city". With a medical condition I have, a good lawyer could qualify me as "temporarily insane" for convenience purposes as well.

  13. Well being a cop myself he handled this the wrong way. I wonder if he slaps his wife around like that. He needs to be fired and the dept should be ashamed

  14. @Anonymous Cop - How should he have handled it???

  15. I have seen this move a few times before.

The idea behind it is to catch the person off-guard with a single, unexpected punch so that an arrest can be made more easily.

Its better than rolling around on the floor and having the person try to go for your gun.

  16. I have no sympathy for that fat cow.

She's evidently mentally capable enough to figure out how to eat.

I have never in my life done anything which required law enforcement to try to control me. Neither has anyone in my family.

She deserved a punch in the face at a minimum.

  17. I applaud his actions whether legal or not. I've witnessed similar incidences on the CTA. Some of us just need to get to work, believe it or not.

One of those incidences involved a violently drunk guy in a wheelchair. It was handled quite swiftly. Sad scene, he slid right out of that chair going down the bus ramp where the cops were waiting for him. No sympathy, he had some unwarranted very foul names for the driver and passengers. Holding us all up. Mentally ill, substance abuse, homeless, whatever, get 'em the F OFF! According to the driver, he was a "frequent flyer" on that route too.

So when I'm old and lonely, I hope I'm still in Chicago. I'm just gonna drink all and ride the bus all day and F everyone elses day up too. Spread the joy.
