This video may be 45 seconds long, but it’s sure to spark plenty of conversation.
On December 10, 2011, around 8 p.m., two Chicago police officers were filmed trying to handcuff a man who was pinned to the ground.
While trying to subdue the suspect, officers reportedly tasered the suspect, pulled his hair, stepped on his arm, and put him in a choke hold.
When the suspect began gasping for air, a bystander yelled at the officers to stop.
“You choking the man, jack!” shouted a man from the sidelines.
“Shut the fuck up! Maybe he shouldn’t have fuckin’ bit me and taken my taser and tried to tase me!” said an officer as he straddled the suspect.
When backup arrived, one of the responding officers ran straight for the cameraman and the video was immediately shut off.
An alleged eyewitness told Chicago News Report that the incident started inside a nearby store, but the informant wouldn’t say where the store is located.
The tipster also said, prior to the recording, one of the officers punched the man in the face and dragged him out of the store by his hair, because the man called the officers foul names.

Let the police do their jobs. I just don't trust videos like this - it's 45 seconds, but we have no idea how long this struggle was going on before this clip started, we don't know what the perp did initially to get the cops involved, or what he did once they had him.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this looks bad on the surface, but there is more to it. The guy is clearly struggling with the police, and obviously is very strong - two cops are having trouble with him. We don't know if he was strung out on something, we don't know about the cops claim that the man bit him & tried to grab his taser, etc.
Not to mention that biting someone is very dangerous, this guy could have a number of diseases that he could pass to the cop by biting him.
This clip only tells a tiny version of the story, and judgment should be reserved until we know more. Unlikely, though, and this will certainly be used by the demographics in Chicago that are very anti-police (not to mention, in favor of highly anti-social behavior).

ReplyDeleteWhat disturbs me the most about the video is the fact that a squad pulls up to 2 of his guys wrestling on the ground. His main objective is not the suspect but the guy with a video camera. Cops should not wonder why the sheep don't trust them.

ReplyDeleteThis is clearly a heated, intense situation - a man is on the ground, repeatedly getting tased & hit in an effort to be subdued, but continues to fight. After he allegedly bit an officer and tried to disarm him.
We don't see what the second responding cop does, he may have gone to assist the first two, or establish some other perimeter security.
I'm not a cop or security guard or anything, but I'm also an adult who recognizes that in this hostile situation, the police need to worry about bystanders who may want to get involved in addition to the guy on the ground.

Cops go after people of color more often, because they are involved in crimes more often. It has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the crimes commited by that race of people. At this point, I think it is safe to say the majority of chicago black youth are involved in criminal activity of some sort. The question is whether they are commiting a crime at that moment or not...

I don't understand how (2) police officers are not able to control (1) man? Are they hiring 5'2" gay men to do the job? The police force needs to have higher standards when hiring people. By higher standards I mean, they should hire more educated and physically fit people. A professional and educated police officer is not going to say," Shut the fuck up" to a bystander. And a physically fit police officer would not have difficulties controlling one man.

In this case, this person should not have resisted and disrespected- the footage was only 40 seconds, it's hard to tell how all this started.

Based on his behavior & the sounds he's making, there is a high likelihood that he is fucked up on one drug or another (or a combination). And when people are on drugs like PCP, which is extremely popular in Chicago in the ghetto, they are out of their minds and uncontrollable.
Also, the cops are trying to get his hands in position so they can cuff him, and since he's fighting, it will take more than one person to subdue him while another one can get out his handcuffs and get them on the guy. It's not like this person is complying, turning around, and putting his hands behind his back - he's doing anything but that.
The cops aren't physically fit? Frankly, to me, the two cops on the ground look young, and in shape. They are just dealing with someone who is out of control.
As to his comment telling the bystander to STFU, we again don't know what preceded this, or how intense this situation is. We don't know how many other people are standing there next to the guy making the tape - as far as we know the cops are outnumbered ten to one. To keep control they absolutely need to appear aggressive.
And anyway, what do you think the cop should do? Should het let go of the guy fighting on the ground, who bit him & tried to take his weapon, and approach the taper & say, "Excuse me sir, may I ask that you remain quiet while we finish our work?"
Of course not. That's just absurd, and you know it. Keep in mind, the guy taping is making threatening comments to the cops, and calling them "bitch ass niggers." And we have no idea how many times before the cops may have asked nicely before having to curse at this guy to stop taping.
Finally, cut it out with the, "I don't understand" line. That's what kids, whiners, and losers use when they don't get their way, or when they want to passively aggressively bash something while trying to appear non biased. Grow up.
God Bless these Cops. I would never want anyone I love to have that job. These poor cops have to risk their lives and safety dealing with these pieces of shit so that we can live in Chicago.
