When an innocent CTA passenger became the latest victim of the city’s seemingly rampant mass transit crime - he fought back.
At approximately 8:25 p.m., a CTA customer at the Jackson/State Red Line subway had his pocket picked by a thief. When the victim realized what happened, he began to fight with the crook.
Multiple CTA passengers reported the incident to the 911.
The victim was described a white man wearing a blue sweater. The offender was described as a short, heavy-set black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
After the robbery, the thief exited the subway and fled southbound on State Street from 230 South State.
No further details are available.

It's pretty simple, be aware of your surroundings. In crowded conditions keep your crap in your pockets and jam your hands into your pockets! You see somebody weird coming near you, move away! Which at the Jackson Red line is a lot of people. Wait until you get in your seat to play with your *bleep* cellphone! It's called your imagination, utilize it for a few minutes so you don't flash your gadgets at would-be-robbers.
ReplyDeletethis is why i haven't been on a cta train in over 10 years.
ReplyDeleteTrains are like the worst place to expose your high tech stuff. Spend the extra time and take a bus, it's safer and don't hold your breath thinking the CTA will address this issue...they'd rather update the stores at the stations.
ReplyDeleteIf you have to take the train, pick a car with a lot of people on it, don't sit by the exit door with your stuff out and look up every now and again to see what's happening around you.
When you own a monopoly, you can do whatever you want. :-)
