Citizens chase thief who stole woman’s cell phone on Michigan Ave.
When witnesses saw a teenage thief snatch a woman’s cell phone, they sprung into action.
The crime occurred around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of North Michigan Avenue and East Illinois Street, which is approximately 500 North Michigan Avenue.
A black male, believed to be 16 to 17-years-old, snatched a woman’s Samsung 4G cell phone and took off.
While the terrified female victim stood frozen in front of the Chicago Tribune Tower, witnesses chased the thief southbound on Michigan Avenue, where they lost sight of him.
The crook is approximately 5’7” and 130 pounds. His hair was styled in a short Afro and he was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
Police searched nearby CTA train stations, but the suspect was never found.

Now that's what I'm talking about! If the older ladies can do it, so can everyone else. We ALL need to "spring into action" and tackle, trip or sideswipe these criminals as they make their getaway. Let's quote Network now.."I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore"! Everyone say it all together now....
ReplyDeleteI have a phrase that describes people who standby and watch a crime unfold, and do nothing - it's called the Peter Parker Syndrome.
ReplyDeletePeter Parker is Spider Man's real name. In the comic book series, Peter became cocky after he gained his new spider-powers. When he had the chance to stop a thief that was being chased by the cops, he nonchalantly stood by and did nothing.
Later, that same thief broke into Peter's uncle's home, and killed him.
The Peter Parker Syndrome.
Go citizens! We all need to take our streets back.
ReplyDeleteMore Near North side crime by blacks coming into the area to prey on whites. I'm with you on the need for bystanders to get more involved but exercise caution. A few years ago I did so on a mugging but had the creep whip out a gun on me and point it at my face, so be careful; some may have a knife or gun on them. Call the cops, follow them, photograph them, etc. I was, however, disgusted with the lack of involvement by passersby.
ReplyDeletePete,
ReplyDeleteI think we have all become empathetic. It reminds me of that horrible incident in New York decades ago when a young woman screamed for her life and NO ONE helped her. I carry pepper spray and a full can of pop in my messenger bag and trust me, I would clock anyone trying to rob me or if I see them running away from a robbery and they just happen to run passed me, I'm swinging! It's easy to stick out your foot and trip them or sideswipe them with your elbow, than while their down, beat the hell out of them. IF we all started doing that, these ghetto thugs MIGHT think twice. But I agree we need to be cautious. We just need to do something!
