The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting a rather strange occurrence.
It seems that Green Party candidate, Rich Whitney's last name has been changed to 'Whitey' on some electronic ballots. What makes this so-called typo even more interesting, is that nearly half the misspellings are on electronic ballots in African-American wards.
Whitney's name is spelled correctly on the main menu, but when voters click through the options, his last name appears as "Whitey".
"This is a difficult situation. We'll make the best of it. But the important thing is the name is spelled correctly where it counts, and that's where people are making the selection," said Chicago Board of Elections spokesman, Jim Allen.
Whitney told the Chicago Sun-Times that he doesn't want to be known as Whitey, and wonders why the misspelling is primarily happening in African-American wards.
