Is there a rapist loose in Uptown, Lakeview; or was it an elaborate prank?
A woman said a man followed her from a nearby Red Line "L" station to an Uptown address, around 3 a.m.
The exact location of this alleged incident is not clear. It possibly occurred on the 4600 block of North Broadway, or the 4900 block of North Sheridan Road. Police dispatch wasn't sure.
A male suspect allegedly told the woman not to run and instructed her to go behind a building.
The would-be victim told authorities she ran and escaped her potential attacker.
The woman described the suspect as a black man wearing a black and white checkered jacket.
The woman called police at least twice. At 3:39 a.m., she was still waiting for authorities to arrive.
At 5:12 a.m., someone reported at rape at Gill Park, 825 West Sheridan Road.
A female 911 caller said a bald black man, wearing a black and white checkered coat, was raping a woman behind the field house.
Police searched the area.
Officers found two men sleeping behind the property, but no rapist and no victim.
Authorities said the 911 call came from a payphone at the Mobile gas station at 3901 North Broadway.
An officer interviewed the gas station attendant on duty, but he hadn't seen a woman near the payphone in the last twenty minutes.
At 5:32 a.m., a call was transferred from 311 to 911.
A female caller claimed she saw a bald black man wearing a black and white checkered coat, trying to drag a woman away from a bus stop at Sheridan and Irving Park Road.
The caller said the offender was holding a broken bottle to the woman's neck, and was threatening to cut her throat.
And that's where the trail goes cold.
Suddenly, there were no more police calls regarding the man in the black and white jacket; and all police communications regarding the matter, abruptly came to an end.

If this was a prank, shame on the woman making these calls. Not only did this person waste police time but she makes all women who may actually get rapped, look like they're making it up. What another loser scumbag! IF it did happen, I expect the police would FULLY look into this but doing so seems like it may be a losing battle with no evidence.
ReplyDeleteWhat would the point of this prank be? What kind of twisted mind would do this? Hmmm, Gil park and the Chateau are right by each other and we all know that there are some crazy ass people in the Chateau...
That place needs to be shut down!
The cops took the calls very seriously, but they never found anything. The calls seem to be coming from different locations in Uptown and Lakeview. Very odd.
